Whispering Bones
Walk into the boneyard
Plots
Some old
Faded
Some fresh
The dirt still
Mounded
The bones whisper
Here lies
An alcoholic
Consumed by chaos
Addicted to
Her own pain
Here lies
A fiery eyed
New counselor
Her own wounds
Still so unhealed
Here lies
A scorned lover
Cloaked in betrayal
Chasing her worth
Never catching up
Here lies
A woman healing
Still staring through
6 inch thick plexiglass
At the life she built
And in the back
Of the boneyard
The old stones
Here lies
A girl, not a woman yet
In a shirt with blue flowers
Reading the eulogy
She wrote for her mother
Here lies
An angry teenager
The rage
Of broken heart
And an unseen wound
Here lies
A frightened
Little girl
Clutching a library book
Looking for safety
But it never comes
The bones whisper
They call out to each other
For years
There was no rest
I came and sat
And I whispered back
“I am here
I have not forgotten you
I will not forget you”
And the whispers
Faded away
